As a response to the government’s plans to scrap the Human Rights Act, we want to get Bob Marley’s protest song ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ to number one in the UK charts. Hard-won freedoms are now at risk of being rolled back and we implore everyone from across the political spectrum to join together and make our voices heard. A key part of the democratic process is the right to peaceful protest, so we are planning to get ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ to number 1 the week before The People’s Assembly Against Austerity march in London on 20th June 2015 to demonstrate against further cuts and privatizations. As Tony Benn famously stated: ‘Every generation has to fight the same battles for peace, justice and democracy. And there is no final victory nor final defeat.’ This campaign is to make sure everyone knows what is at stake and to stand up for our rights.
