Pride's Purge

(not satire – it’s George Osborne and Nick Clegg!)

It’s so easy to forget. It was so long ago.

But please remember that in his 2012 budget – at the height of the coalition government’s so-called austerity drive – George Osborne decided it was just the right time to give 300,000 of the UK’s richest households a cut in income tax.

However, being a fiscally responsible chancellor, Osborne balanced the money he was losing in tax collected from the wealthiest people in the country by cutting child benefits from the poorest. And by making 4.4 million taxpaying pensioners lose an average of £84 a year by freezing their personal allowances.

Oh, and also please make sure it doesn’t escape your mind that Nick Clegg and his Liberal Democrats supported Osborne and his budget all the way.

Remember, remember!

In our second petition Debbie & I  call upon the House of Commons to accept the Recommendations of The Work & Pensions Select 3rd Report  Monitoring the Perfomance of DWP 2012/13 and the  Public Administration Committee 1st Report and Ensures Minsters and others present statistics in a way that is fair, accurate and “unspun”.

Today the Government’s response to the report is out;  unsurprisingly Government is general agrees with the recommendations but not without denying the DWP doesn’t already do this?

Governments response includes many claims:

DWP is very careful about the language used when referring to benefit claimants, making clear that it is the system itself that has for too long trapped people into a life of welfare dependency.

DWP statistical releases are produced and published separately to and independently… Great care is taken by our statisticians to ensure the statistical releases are.. balanced and impartial

ESA Is A Failure Admits DWP

Same Difference

And it gets better- the BBC have covered the story! Many thanks to Benefits And Work for the summary below.

The BBC has obtained DWP internal memos which says that employment and support allowance (ESA) is worse than incapacity benefit at helping people back into work and now poses one of the biggest financial risks faced by the government. The memos also imply that the jobseeker’s allowance (JSA) sanctions regime is partly to blame for the rising number of ESA claimants.

According to the BBC, the leaked memos say that the DWP is struggling to deliver ESA and that claimants now face an average nine month wait for assessment rather than the intended three months. Although one of the main aims of ESA is to move claimants back into work via work-related activities, the memos say that ESA is less effective at doing this than incapacity benefit was. In addition…

The latest group to be hard hit by Government Policies are women employees, Female workers hit hardest by Austerity Agenda & associated Cuts, this won’t be a surprise to anyone not fortunate to earn enough; but for most of us, this is another example of how Government Policies are penalising the majority of people – simply because they are not rich.

The past four years are strewn with evidence demonstrating precisely how, outcomes of Government Reforms have been detrimental to the general public; Welfare Reform has brought about WorkfareBenefit CapBedroom TaxPIP, and  changes to ESA, JSA sanctions  & Tax Credits, to cite a few of the programmes. All of the above, have been criticised by numerous independent groups, charities, think tanks and across social media, as not only being prejudicial but as being incongruous. Similar criticism applies to Policies in Justice Reform, the

David Cameron

“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on”
– Winston Churchill

As a Conservative I have no pleasure in exposing David Cameron’s deficit claims. However, as long as the party continues to talk down the economy via the blame game, confidence will not be given an opportunity to return. For it is an undeniable and inescapable economic fact: without confidence and certainty there can be no real growth.

Below are the three deficit claims – the mess. The evidence comes from the IMF, OECD, OBR, HM Treasury, ONS and even George Osborne. The claims put into context are:

The last government left the biggest debt in the developed world.
