It is some time since I have read this one although well known and the extraordinary thing is that as I am older it means immensely more to me – rings much more true. I have also learned that Kipling had to deal with the horrors of the death of his son in the First World War and far from the Jingoism he has been associated with became a very acerbic critic of government iniquity! Interesting indeed. Well known or not.. we all need to consider the poignant lessons of this poem…Jdwm

 

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
